HIGH NECKLINES

“In that moment, it felt like being able to wear this black floral Monica Bellucci-inspired vintage dress was light years away. Now, I’m thinking that I wish I’d had more time.”

WHERE HAVE ALL THE PARTY GIRLS GONE?

“Rebellion is a developmental milestone, a natural response to being initiated into the social order. Though it is an irritating ordeal for all parties involved, without it, things get weird. With no rebellion, you begin mistaking discomfort for danger, mistaking punishment for justice, and performing morality instead of embodying it.”

DEVOTION (a novel, in progress)

Thomas: I followed you through time and space. I reached through the lichen-covered cedars, the garbage-stained newsstands, a row of Superchargers precisely one world away, and I needed you to hold me. Though you vaguely gesture toward me, I cannot grasp you. Some lives were able to hold us, but this one cannot fit us both comfortably.

Moving across Philadelphia, New York, West Virginia, Alberta, Phoenix, and Los Angeles, DEVOTION is a masterclass in basic bitch semiotics. It is a novel about romantic obsession, female hierarchy, class, faith, the company credit card, and the exquisite pain of allowing your desire to consume and transform you.

ABOUT E.M.

I write novels, short stories, and essays about longing, beauty, faith, sex, motherhood, status, and the highly specific kinds of humiliation rituals that make my life feel meaningful.

I want too much, I care about how I look, and I despise how much modernity causes us all to mistake emotional cowardice for restraint.

This might all seem odd in a biography but once you read my work, it will explain a lot.
